We’re proud to share the story of our latest refurbishment project — the complete transformation and alteration of a striking seafront property with spectacular views over the Solent. This project has been a collaborative journey, working closely with our client and in careful negotiation with the local authority to secure a successful planning application for what is truly a unique home.

Honouring and Enhancing the Art Deco Character

The original Art Deco style of the property has been thoughtfully preserved and enhanced throughout the development. Every element of the design reflects a commitment to celebrating and accentuating the building’s historic character, while integrating modern features that meet contemporary living standards. The result is a home that feels both timeless and fresh, with its distinctive style brought vividly to life.

Designing for Space, Light and Views

A key aim of the project has been to maximise spatial efficiency and make the most of the breath-taking coastal location. The new design cleverly introduces additional accommodation within the roof, offering panoramic views out over the sea. Generous glazing and carefully positioned openings create bright, airy interiors that connect seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.

Sustainability at the Heart of the Refurbishment

Beyond aesthetics, sustainability has been central to this project. The refurbishment delivers a dramatic improvement in the building’s energy performance — reducing energy use by an impressive 95% and associated carbon emissions by 93%. These figures align with the rigorous standards set by the AECB and EnerPHit low energy design frameworks.

Key features of the low energy design include:

·        A target delivered space heating demand of just 15–20 kWh/m².a

·        Air permeability of 2 m³/m².h

·        Heating via highly-efficient air source heat pumps

·        Whole house mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR)

·        A new external render system with considered reveal detailing to minimise thermal bridges and reduce the risk of surface condensation

·        High-performance windows and doors, expertly positioned to insulate over frames within the openings

·        Roof-mounted solar panels providing renewable energy

These measures not only future-proof the property but also provide long-term savings and comfort for the occupants.

Near Completion: Bringing the Vision to Life

We are delighted to report that the project is now in its final stages. The external render is complete, windows and doors have been installed, and the final internal fit-out and external works are well underway. Very soon, this transformed property will be ready to welcome its owners into a stunning, energy-efficient home that perfectly combines historic charm with modern, sustainable living.

Stay tuned for more updates — we look forward to sharing final photography of this remarkable coastal property once works are complete.
